This post will provide our personal commentary about (and/or summaries of) the American home front during World War II.
Ivy:
The people of American home front heavily experienced the effects of war in all facets of life. First of all, most people probably had friends or family members off fighting in the war. Therefore, they were all living on edge, praying & hoping their loved ones would return home safely and make their country proud. Secondly, the war called for drastic changes in people's everyday lives. In everything they did, people had to make the best decisions for the country and for the war effort. This meant rationing food & clothes, buying war bonds, taking new jobs, and more. It meant sacrifice and it meant patriotism. Not only that, but the war brought an end to the greatest economic crisis in American history. It created jobs for people who had been struggling to make ends meet. Who knows how much longer the depression would have lasted if World War II had not contributed to its end? Personally, I think that the effects of the depression would have been much worse if it had not been for World War II. It played a major part in the economic recovery of our country. To put it simply, World War II was most definitely an event that permanently changed life not only in America, but all over the world.
Skylar: In America during WWII, most everything that citizens did was to help with the war effort. Whether it was buying war bonds, carpooling, rationing food, or taking on the responsibility of working new jobs. The war provided citizens with a ton of new jobs; thus, pulling us out of the Great Depression. It also was a time of great worry for the families who had loved ones that were sent off to war. WWII greatly impacted America and changed the lives of many of its citizens. Not only did WWII have huge effects on Ameica, but on the world.
